DESCRIPTION:Discover the sacred art of Byzantine iconography through the Cretan-Greek tradition. \nIn this course\, students will learn: \n\nthe fundamentals of egg tempera painting\,\ntraditional gold leaf application\nand spiritual symbolismfollowing the stylistic influences of iconographer Archdeacon André Pawliw.\n\nNo prior experience is needed — whether you’re a beginner or someone seeking a deeper connection to Eastern Christian art\, this course is designed to be both accessible and enriching. \nTo enter into the mystical world of Greek-Byzantine spirituality through the sacred craft of icon painting\, we will begin with a simple yet profound composition: the bust of Christ\, inspired by the work attributed to Emmanuel Lambardos (1587–1631)\, a master of the Cretan School. \nMost materials — including pigments\, paintbrushes\, gold leaf\, and icon boards — will be provided. Students are kindly asked to bring drawing paper\, pencils\, and a ruler. DESCRIPTION:This is the fourth lecture in the course on Byzantine Liturgy offered by Thomas Pott\, in which we explore together the richness of the Byzantine liturgical tradition. The course examines its rituals\, the history of their development\, and the depth of its spiritual and prayer heritage\, with attention both to meaning and lived experience. \nParticular attention is given to the liturgical practices of Saint Michael’s Fellowship at La Rivelaine\, so that the tradition is not only studied theoretically\, but also understood through its concrete expression. \nThe lectures take place once a month: in principle\, on the first Sunday of the month in French\, on the second Sunday in Dutch\, and on the fourth Sunday in English. \nDuring this fourth lecture\, we will examine the structure of the Byzantine Eucharist (the Divine Liturgy) by tracing its origins in the biblical and pre-patristic tradition. Our aim is to explore how the Eucharist developed from the primitive kerygma into a richly structured liturgical rite\, in which ritual development and theological reflection evolved hand in hand. \nThe liturgical tradition on which we shall focus is what we referred to in the previous lecture primarily as the Cathedral Liturgy. This lecture will lay the foundation for our subsequent exploration of the interaction between the cathedral and monastic liturgical traditions during the period we have called A Tale of Two Cities and Two Deserts. \nAnyone interested in liturgy\, spirituality\, or Christian tradition is warmly welcome.

DESCRIPTION:The Mundus Imaginalis\nAn exploration of the symbolic world of the soul\nWith David Nieuwejaers Roef\nNearly all wisdom traditions teach that the cosmos fundamentally consists of three worlds. In addition to the earthly world\, there is also the world of the soul and the world of the spirit. The world of the soul is an intermediate realm\, linking heaven and earth\, spirit and body. It is also the space in which divine revelations and mystical inspirations can disclose themselves to human beings in symbolic form. One may think\, for example\, of Moses’ vision of the burning bush\, the encounter of the Virgin Mary with the angel Gabriel\, or the mi‘raj\, the heavenly ascent of the Prophet Muhammad. \nBecause this world is the domain in which sacred myths and symbols possess their own reality\, the renowned Islamicist Henry Corbin called it the mundus imaginalis\, the imaginal world\, in order to distinguish it from the imaginary and the collective unconscious. More recently\, the philosopher of religion Daniel van Egmond has likewise advocated a rediscovery of the mundus imaginalis\, since without this “middle” of the soul\, we cannot serve as a bridge between heaven and earth\, and religious experiences are often mistakenly reduced to psychological phenomena. \nIn this course\, we will become acquainted with the mundus imaginalis and seek to better understand why\, in the West\, we have lost contact with its reality. We will explore how the imaginal world is not only a central theme in the thought of certain Islamic thinkers\, such as Ibn ‘Arabī and Suhrawardī\, but also plays a crucial role in the lives of some Christian mystics\, such as Hildegard of Bingen and Jakob Böhme. From them\, we may learn why\, especially in our own time\, the imaginal world is essential for the sacramental character of creation and for the healing of the soul. \nThis course consists of a series of lectures\, also accessible online\, combined with several sessions that offer space for study and further reflection. You may register either for the full program or for individual days.\nThe course is conducted entirely in Dutch.

DESCRIPTION:In this course\, we use movement and dance as a gateway to connect more deeply with yourself. Drawing on the different value systems of Spiral Dynamics\, we explore how you respond\, move\, and make choices in life. \nWe slow down and listen to what is alive in your body. Through simple\, guided exercises\, you discover how your core expresses itself through movement\, and how to recognize and follow these signals in everyday life. \nWe take time to reflect on questions such as: what gives me energy? Where do I feel tension or blockage? When do I feel balanced and in the right place? \nIn a safe and supportive environment\, you learn to take your own experiences seriously and to trust what your body is telling you. Step by step\, greater clarity emerges about who you are\, what you need\, and what feels right for you. \nThrough this process\, you can become more grounded in your presence and\, from that foundation\, make choices that are more aligned with your inner compass. \nEmile Boer:\nI have been dancing since the age of four. From improvisation to breakdance\, and from folk dance to contemporary dance\, movement has always been an essential part of my life.\nAfter completing my bachelor’s degree in dance at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem\, I began to feel that something was missing—a certain depth and authenticity\, both in dance and in life.\nThrough Spiral Dynamics\, I was able to rediscover this depth and a sense of inner alignment. Building on this experience\, I trained as a coach using Spiral Dynamics.\nIt is from this journey that I developed this course\, with the intention of sharing these insights and experiences with others. \nThe course is taught in English and Dutch. \nMinimum number of participants: 4; maximum: 10.

SUMMARY:Back to Eden: Christ as High Priest and the Healing of Creation\, by David Roef Nieuwejaers (NL)
DESCRIPTION:In the Gospel of John\, shortly before his arrest\, Christ offers his High Priestly Prayer. He asks for glorification\, for unity among his disciples\, and for all future believers: \n“that they may all be one\, Father\, as you are in me and I am in you; may they also be in us…”What do these striking words mean\, and why is Christ called our High Priest? \nWe approach these questions from both the perspective of early Christian tradition and that of ancient Jewish tradition\, with particular attention to the mysticism of the First Temple (c. 1000–586 BC). This reveals that the original Temple was far more than a place of sacrifice: it was a cosmic sanctuary where heaven and earth meet\, a symbolic expression of paradisiacal order and beauty. Within it\, the High Priest acted as a representative of humanity\, as a new Adam\, entering the Glory of the Holy One and thereby bringing healing and renewal to the world. \nAgainst this background\, Christ appears as the heavenly High Priest who enters the true sanctuary—the Kingdom of Heaven—thus opening access to the glory of God and leading us back into the liturgy of creation. His prayer therefore goes beyond a merely ecclesial or religious understanding of unity. He prays for the restoration of our original vocation: to participate in the love of divine life\, so that each human being may become\, in turn\, both temple and priest\, in a life-giving communion with all that lives. \nThis lecture will be presented in Dutch

SUMMARY:Tikkun: the power of reconciliation and healing in a broken world\, by David Roef Nieuwejaers (NL)
DESCRIPTION:The lecture explores the deeper meaning of Tikkun\, the Jewish spiritual concept of repair and reconciliation\, both of the soul and of the world. From a mystical and Kabbalistic perspective\, we show how ethical actions and awakened compassion contribute to cosmic\, relational and social reconciliation. Tikkun is an active process in which healing Light encounters our brokenness. The lecture connects spiritual insights with practical applications and invites participants to reflect on their role in reconciliation: even small\, conscious actions can set off a chain reaction of healing\, justice and harmony in the world. \nThe lecture\, in two parts with a coffee break\, will be held in Dutch. \nFor those who cannot attend\, there is the option to follow online (Zoom).
