In numerous cultures\, it carries a deep spiritual meaning: it is primarily seen as a symbol of the flow of life\, but is also associated with purification\, transformation\, and healing. \nIn relation to the human being\, water is a mirror of the soul; it often evokes intuition\, the unconscious\, as well as empathy and inner depth. \nWater is gentle\, yet it wears away the stone and teaches us to move with the current rather than against it. \nThe afternoon’s programme highlights the different dimensions of water and invites us to rediscover them within ourselves.

DESCRIPTION:This is the second lecture of the course on Byzantine Liturgy offered by Thomas Pott\, in which we will explore together the richness of the Byzantine liturgical tradition. We will examine its rituals\, the history of its development\, and the depth of its prayer heritage\, with attention both to meaning and lived experience. \nParticular attention will be given to the practices of Saint Michael’s Fellowship at La Rivelaine\, so that the tradition is not only studied\, but also understood in its concrete expression. \nThe meetings will take place once a month: in principle on the first Sunday of the month in French\, on the second Sunday in Dutch and on the fourth Sunday in English. \nDuring this second session\, we will present the Byzantine liturgical calendar and begin a historical overview of the development of the Byzantine liturgy. \nAnyone interested in liturgy\, spirituality\, or Christian tradition is warmly welcome.

SUMMARY:Back to Eden: Christ as High Priest and the Healing of Creation\, by David Roef Nieuwejaers (NL)
DESCRIPTION:In the Gospel of John\, shortly before his arrest\, Christ offers his High Priestly Prayer. He asks for glorification\, for unity among his disciples\, and for all future believers: \n“that they may all be one\, Father\, as you are in me and I am in you; may they also be in us…”What do these striking words mean\, and why is Christ called our High Priest? \nWe approach these questions from both the perspective of early Christian tradition and that of ancient Jewish tradition\, with particular attention to the mysticism of the First Temple (c. 1000–586 BC). This reveals that the original Temple was far more than a place of sacrifice: it was a cosmic sanctuary where heaven and earth meet\, a symbolic expression of paradisiacal order and beauty. Within it\, the High Priest acted as a representative of humanity\, as a new Adam\, entering the Glory of the Holy One and thereby bringing healing and renewal to the world. \nAgainst this background\, Christ appears as the heavenly High Priest who enters the true sanctuary—the Kingdom of Heaven—thus opening access to the glory of God and leading us back into the liturgy of creation. His prayer therefore goes beyond a merely ecclesial or religious understanding of unity. He prays for the restoration of our original vocation: to participate in the love of divine life\, so that each human being may become\, in turn\, both temple and priest\, in a life-giving communion with all that lives. \nThis lecture will be presented in Dutch

SUMMARY:Viriditas: the green soul-force in cosmos and humanity\, by David Roef Nieuwejaers (E)
DESCRIPTION:The twelfth-century mystic Hildegard of Bingen speaks in her writings of viriditas: the green\, creative soul-force that flows through both human beings and the earth. For her\, “green” was the sign of divine presence in all that grows\, blossoms\, and heals. Through her richly symbolic miniatures and artistic visions\, we discover how the human being\, as a microcosm\, may receive this power of growth — while being rooted in the earth and at the same time opened toward the divine light.\n\nAs the images unfold\, we explore how this centuries-old insight is strikingly relevant today. What does it mean to reconnect with that life-force — within our body\, within our soul\, and within the earth itself? And how might viriditas inspire inner renewal in a time of ecological and spiritual desolation? This lecture invites us not only to listen\, but also to see — and perhaps even to experience something of that “green vitality” once again.\n\nThe lecture takes place in dialogue with the exhibition ART\, NATURE & SCENT\, presented at La Rivelaine from 17–22 April 2026. Visitors are invited to experience the exhibition prior to the lecture.\nEarlier the afternoon\, the same lecture will be presented in French (13:30-15:00). \nCurated by Aglaia Pnomareva of Pon Art Consulting\, coorganized by Fleur Rossdale’s Direct Climate Cooling Initiative\, the exhibition centres on the Woodland Sprite Series and the idea of Woodland Sanctuaries—intimate spaces of care\, imagination\, and renewal. SUMMARY:Tikkun: the power of reconciliation and healing in a broken world\, by David Roef Nieuwejaers (NL)
DESCRIPTION:The lecture explores the deeper meaning of Tikkun\, the Jewish spiritual concept of repair and reconciliation\, both of the soul and of the world. From a mystical and Kabbalistic perspective\, we show how ethical actions and awakened compassion contribute to cosmic\, relational and social reconciliation. Tikkun is an active process in which healing Light encounters our brokenness. The lecture connects spiritual insights with practical applications and invites participants to reflect on their role in reconciliation: even small\, conscious actions can set off a chain reaction of healing\, justice and harmony in the world. \nThe lecture\, in two parts with a coffee break\, will be held in Dutch. \nFor those who cannot attend\, there is the option to follow online (Zoom).

SUMMARY:Introduction to Byzantine Liturgy (F)
DESCRIPTION:This lecture marks the beginning of a new course offered by Thomas Pott\, in which we will explore together the richness of the Byzantine liturgical tradition. We will examine its rituals\, the history of its development\, and the depth of its prayer heritage\, with attention both to meaning and lived experience. \nParticular attention will be given to the practices of Saint Michael’s Fellowship at La Rivelaine\, so that the tradition is not only studied\, but also understood in its concrete expression. \nThe meetings will take place once a month: in principle on the first Sunday of the month in Dutch and on the second Sunday of the month in French. The course can also be offered in English upon request. \nDuring this first gathering\, we will present the aims and content of the course and\, if needed\, adapt them to the expectations and interests of the participants. Similar ideas appear among Christian mystics\, who describe God as infinite space and primordial ground from which every moment of “now” is born. \nThis concert invites you to encounter this infinite space through sound-space (piano music inspired by the theme of space)\, word-space (selected poetry)\, and fragrance-space (incense).
