Insensum is the brand name of the olfactory creations of the non-profit association Incense & Fragrance. The association is devoted to exploring the subtle universe of scent, in which each fragrance becomes a language.
Producing incense according to ancient Byzantine techniques, Incense & Fragrance now extends its range to related products such as soaps, scented candles, and home fragrances.
The name Insensum is inspired by the quest to connect the beauty and depth of nature to the spiritual dimension of existence; a quest pursued through our senses.
Located at La Rivelaine, where craftsmanship meets contemplation, Insensum strives to awaken the senses, nourish the soul and make each fragrance an encounter between the visible and the invisible.
Smell is part of our cultural DNA. Since the eighties of the last century, the ‘Proust effect’ has been the subject of ongoing scientific study, and it seems that the human capacity for synaesthesia has gained increasing recognition.
From this anthropological and sensory perspective, the Insensum incense workshop aims to provide a platform for people from different cultures to meet and explore the enchanted world of incense and perfumes, exploring and deepening the universe of fragrances, smells and incense, based on both religious traditions and current scientific research.
Guided visits are generally held on the third Saturday of each month, or by appointment on another date.
